Summary
We collect minimal data โ no accounts, no logins. What we do collect is standard web analytics and information from advertising partners so we can keep the site running and free. We don't sell your personal data.
Who we are and what this covers
"DTC Bus Routes" (referred to below as "we", "us", "the service") operates:
- The website www.dtcbusroutes.in
- The DTC Bus Routes Android application, available on Google Play (package:
in.dtcbusroutes.app)
This policy applies to both. We are an independent commuter tool and are not affiliated with the Delhi Transport Corporation or any government body.
For any privacy-related questions, contact us at admin@dtcbusroutes.in.
Information we collect
Automatically collected (all visitors)
- Standard web logs: IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, timestamps, and pages visited. This is standard for any website and is used to keep the site secure and diagnose problems.
- Search queries: When you search for a bus number or stop, that query is processed by our server. We do not store personally identifiable logs of searches.
Analytics and behavioral
- Google Analytics 4: aggregate behavior data (pages viewed, time on site, device type, approximate location at city level). Google may set cookies for this purpose.
- Microsoft Clarity: anonymised session recordings and heatmaps that help us understand which parts of the site are confusing. Recordings are aggregated and do not include form inputs, PII, or personal content.
Advertising
- Google AdSense and other advertising partners may serve ads on our website pages. These partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your past visits to this and other websites.
- Google AdMob may serve ads inside the Android app. AdMob uses your device's advertising ID (a resettable identifier managed by Google Play services) to serve and measure ads.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings, resetting your Android advertising ID in your device's Google settings, or visiting the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page.
Android app data
The DTC Bus Routes Android app collects and shares the following, matching our declaration on the Google Play Data Safety page:
- Device or other IDs (the Android advertising ID) โ collected and shared with Google AdMob for the purpose of serving and measuring advertising. The advertising ID is a resettable identifier managed by Google Play services.
The app does not collect your contacts, photos, files, calendar, messages, financial information, or personal identifiers. It does not require signup and stores no personal profile.
Location data (app only)
When you use the "nearest bus stop" feature in the Android app, your device sends its current coordinates (latitude and longitude) to our server so we can compute the closest bus stops and return them to you. This is the only feature that uses location, and location is only requested when you invoke it.
What happens with these coordinates:
- They appear in our standard web server access logs alongside your IP address and timestamp, the same way any web request does.
- They are used solely to answer your current request. We do not attach coordinates to a user profile or track your movement between requests.
- Server access logs are retained for approximately 30-90 days for security, debugging, and abuse-prevention purposes, then automatically rotated out and deleted.
- Coordinates are not shared with advertising partners, analytics providers, or other third parties.
If you do not want your coordinates to be transmitted, do not use the "nearest bus stop" feature. You can also revoke the Location permission at any time in your device's app settings, in which case the feature will not work but the rest of the app will function normally.
Android app permissions
When you install the app, you may see the following permissions:
- Location (approximate and precise) โ used only for the "nearest bus stop" feature described above.
- Network access (receive data from Internet, view network state, full network access) โ required to load route data, refresh the app, and display ads.
- Prevent device from sleeping โ keeps the screen active while you interact with maps or long route lists.
- Google Play license check โ a standard Google Play integrity check.
Data is encrypted in transit. All communication between the app and our servers, and between the app and Google's advertising services, uses secure TLS connections.
You can reset your Android advertising ID or opt out of ads personalisation at any time in your device's Google settings under Ads. You can also revoke individual permissions (including location) at any time in your device's app settings.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small piece of text stored on your device by your browser. On the website, we and our partners use cookies for:
- Basic site functionality (e.g., remembering that you've dismissed a dialog)
- Analytics (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity)
- Advertising (Google AdSense and its partners)
In the Android app, cookies are not used. Similar functionality is provided by your device's advertising ID (managed by Google Play services) and standard app storage.
You can disable or delete cookies through your browser settings, or reset/limit your advertising ID in your Android device settings. Some features may work less well without these, and ads may be less relevant to you but will still be shown.
