Request data deletion

How to ask us to delete any data we hold about you, under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

What data we hold

DTC Bus Routes collects a limited set of data across the website and the Android app. To help you decide what to request deletion of, here's what may be associated with your usage:

  • Server access logs — IP address, timestamps, requested URLs, browser or app user agent. If you used the "nearest bus stop" feature in the app, this also includes approximate or precise coordinates you sent for that request. Retained for approximately 30-90 days, then automatically rotated out and deleted.
  • Analytics data — aggregated pageview and behaviour data collected by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (website only). Retained per those services' default policies.
  • Advertising ID (Android app only) — a resettable Google-managed identifier used by Google AdMob for ad serving and measurement.

We do not have user accounts, profiles, or persistent identifiers we control ourselves. Everything above is either short-lived server-side or managed by a third-party service.

How to request deletion

Send an email with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" to admin@dtcbusroutes.in.

Include the following in your email so we can identify what to delete:

  • Whether the request is for the website, the Android app, or both
  • Approximate date(s) of your usage (helps locate log entries)
  • For the app: your advertising ID if you want us to pass a deletion request to Google AdMob on your behalf. Find it in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads
  • The IP address(es) you used, if known (optional but helpful)
  • Any specific data you want removed, or "all data" for a full deletion

You don't need to share anything sensitive. If you don't provide identifying details, we'll do our best based on approximate timing and IP.

What we'll do

Within 30 days of receiving your request:

  1. We'll acknowledge your request by email.
  2. We'll delete any server log entries that match the identifiers you provided.
  3. For analytics and AdMob data, we'll pass the deletion request to Google (Google Analytics has a data deletion API) and Microsoft (Clarity has similar controls). We can only ask, not guarantee — the third-party service handles the final deletion.
  4. We'll confirm completion by email.

India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 gives you the right to have personal data deleted, subject to legal retention requirements. We follow this in good faith.

Alternative: opt out without a deletion request

If you just want to stop being tracked going forward without deleting past logs, you can:

  • Disable ads personalisation: Android Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID (or opt out of interest-based ads)
  • Block cookies: Configure your browser to reject cookies from dtcbusroutes.in
  • Opt out of Google Ads: Google Ad Settings
  • Uninstall the app or stop using the website
